How do I use Hive alongside other apps on iPad?

Keep a reference beside your canvas

You can open any image in a new window, which gives you a reference that stays put while you draw or design in another app. With a keyboard attached, hold Command and click an item to open it in its own window. Hive also works in Split View, so the library and your canvas can share the screen.

Drag and drop

Drag items from Hive into another app, one at a time or several together, and any kind of file can be dragged. It works in the other direction too: drag files into Hive to import them. Inside Hive, you can drag items between folders and drag folders to reorder them.

Keyboard, trackpad, and mouse

Hive supports keyboard shortcuts on iPad, including Command-V to import what you've copied and shortcuts for moving between images. With a trackpad or mouse you can scrub through a video precisely.

Lock the canvas

When you're drawing from a reference, an accidental touch can pan or zoom the image. Locking the canvas from the image's menu keeps it still until you unlock it.
