How do Import Center, Auto Save, and Add Details work?

There are several ways to bring something into a library, and they all end up in the same place.

• The share sheet, from any app with a Share button.
• The Safari extension on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, and the Chrome extension on Mac.
• Import Center, where you paste one link or many.
• Photos and Files, including Live Photos, GIFs, and video straight from the camera.
• Drag and drop, including several files at once, and Command-V on iPad with a keyboard.
• Shortcuts, if you want to automate imports.

Auto Save

Auto Save brings in everything Hive found and leaves the organizing for later. It suits the moments when you're collecting quickly: walking through a showroom, reading on a train, or working down a long page. Nothing asks you a question, so you keep your attention on what you're looking at.

Add Details

Add Details pauses before saving and lets you choose a folder, add tags, set a star rating, and write a note for the batch. It's the better choice when you already know where something belongs, and especially when you want to write down why you kept it while you still remember.

Duplicate Check

Duplicate Check compares the content of images as they're imported, so the same picture doesn't enter the library twice. It only looks at images, and it's off by default, because the comparison uses noticeable processing power and memory. On a large library or a big batch it can slow importing a lot. Turn it on when avoiding duplicates matters more to you than speed.

Auto Read Clipboard

With this setting on, Hive notices when you've copied a link, an image, or a file, and offers to import it when you open the app. It's off until you turn it on under Settings › Import, and you can turn it off again at any time.
