Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Hive ("we," "our," or "the App") is a local-first visual library for organizing images, videos, URLs, files, folders, tags, notes, and related metadata. Your Hive library is stored on your device or, when you choose iCloud Drive, in storage managed by Apple. Hive does not sell personal information or use your library items to build advertising profiles.

This Privacy Policy explains what stays in your library, what information is processed when you use optional network features, what diagnostic information you may choose to share, and the choices and rights available to you.

2. Information Collection and Use

Library data

Hive does not send your photos, videos, files, filenames, folders, tags, notes, or saved library URLs to Hive's diagnostic service merely because they are stored in your library. Hive processes this content locally to provide library organization, viewing, editing, search, import, export, and related app features.

Optional Share Diagnostics

Share Diagnostics is off by default. Diagnostic telemetry is sent to PostHog at us.i.posthog.com only after you actively enable Share Diagnostics in Hive's in-app Privacy settings. You can turn it off at any time. Turning it off immediately stops future diagnostic collection.

When enabled, diagnostic telemetry may include:

• App name, version, build number, release channel, and operating-system version
• Device model and type, screen dimensions, language or locale, time zone, and Wi-Fi or cellular network context
• An anonymous diagnostic identifier, launch identifiers, and other app-scoped technical identifiers
• Salted hashes derived from library, photo, library-key, or metadata-path identifiers
• Exact or tiered library item counts, folder and tag counts, file or payload sizes, timestamps, durations, cache and storage state, performance events, feature interactions, and sanitized operational error codes
• Crash reports, which may include an exception type and reason, stack trace, thread and module information, runtime addresses, and debug-image metadata used for symbolication

Hive uses this information to diagnose failures, understand reliability and performance, provide support, protect the service, and improve the App. Hive does not enable screen recording, session replay, automatic screen-view capture, automatic element-interaction tracking, surveys, or person profiles in PostHog.

Your anonymous diagnostic ID is available in Hive's Privacy settings and may also be included in the in-app feedback flow. This ID helps us locate diagnostic events when responding to an access or deletion request.

Visual Search

When you actively use Visual Search, Hive sends the image you selected, or the cropped portion you selected, to Pinterest's Visual Search service so Pinterest can return visually related results. Pinterest may also receive request metadata normally associated with a network request. Visual Search does not upload other library items that you did not select for that search. Pinterest processes this information under its own terms and privacy policy.

Import and download services

When you ask Hive to import or download content from a supported website or service, the submitted URL, media request, and related request metadata may be sent to the selected source website, content host, or download provider so the requested operation can be completed. Those independent services process information under their own terms and privacy policies.

Feedback and support

When you choose to send feedback, Hive prepares an editable email draft. Depending on the support flow, the draft may include your device name, operating-system version, app version and build, submitted URLs, error details, library path or database key, iCloud and storage state, launch or loading diagnostics, your anonymous diagnostic ID, and optional diagnostic attachments. Review the draft and attachments before sending and remove any information you do not want to share. The message is sent only when you confirm it in your email app.

3. Data Security

Hive relies on Apple's platform security model for local app data and uses HTTPS for PostHog diagnostics and supported network services where those services provide HTTPS endpoints. Libraries stored in iCloud Drive are protected and synchronized by Apple's services and your Apple Account security settings.

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards appropriate to the nature of the information processed. Providers acting on our behalf must protect information in a manner consistent with this Privacy Policy and applicable law. Independent services, such as Apple, Pinterest, source websites, content hosts, import providers, and your email provider, apply their own security practices and privacy policies.

No storage or transmission method is completely secure. Keep your device, operating system, Apple Account, email account, and Hive installation protected using the security controls available to you.

4. Third-Party Services and Content

Hive may interact with the following categories of third-party services when required by a feature you use:

• Apple provides iCloud Drive synchronization, public CloudKit changelog delivery, App Store billing, system sharing, backups, and other platform services
• PostHog processes optional diagnostic telemetry when Share Diagnostics is enabled
• Pinterest processes the selected or cropped image when you invoke Visual Search
• Source websites, content hosts, and import or download providers process URLs, media requests, and request metadata needed to complete an operation
• Your email provider processes feedback that you choose to send
• Apps and websites that you open through Hive, or to which you share content, process information under their own policies

Hive does not operate an account system for your library. App Store purchases and subscription status are handled through Apple's StoreKit and App Store services.

5. Data Retention, Backup, and Deletion

Your local Hive library remains under your control. You can inspect, edit, export, or delete it using Hive and the file-management tools available on your device. Deleting Hive removes its local app data according to Apple's platform behavior. Copies stored in iCloud, device backups, email, websites, or independent third-party services must be managed through the relevant Apple or service controls.

Diagnostic telemetry, support messages, and related technical records are retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for reliability analysis, support, security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, and the establishment, exercise, or defense of legal claims. When they are no longer reasonably necessary, they are deleted or de-identified. Independent third-party services may apply their own retention periods.

You may request access to or deletion of diagnostic telemetry associated with your anonymous diagnostic ID by contacting Hive through the in-app feedback flow or the email address in Section 10. Turning off Share Diagnostics immediately stops future diagnostic collection. Data already held by Apple, Pinterest, PostHog, an email provider, or another third party may also require action through that provider's privacy or support tools.

6. Children's Privacy

Hive does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Hive does not ask children to create a Hive library account. Optional diagnostics remain off unless they are actively enabled in the App.

If a child uses Visual Search, an import or download provider, iCloud, email feedback, or another third-party service through Hive, that service's age requirements, terms, and privacy policy apply. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us using Section 10.

7. International Data Transfers

Optional PostHog diagnostics are sent to the provider endpoint at us.i.posthog.com. Apple, Pinterest, PostHog, email providers, source websites, content hosts, and import or download providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live.

Where applicable law requires safeguards for an international transfer handled on our behalf, we require the relevant provider to use protections consistent with applicable law. Independent third parties apply their own transfer mechanisms and privacy policies.

8. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, restriction of, or a copy of personal information that we process, and to object to certain processing or withdraw consent where consent is the legal basis.

You can:

• Inspect, edit, export, and delete your local Hive library through Hive and your device's file-management tools
• Turn Share Diagnostics on or off at any time in Hive's Privacy settings
• Use the anonymous diagnostic ID shown in Privacy settings or feedback to request access to or deletion of associated diagnostic telemetry
• Review and edit support emails and attachments before sending
• Manage iCloud data, backups, App Store purchases, and permissions through Apple's controls
• Exercise rights concerning data held by Pinterest, PostHog, your email provider, or another independent service through that provider's privacy and support tools

We may need information sufficient to verify and locate a request, but you should not send library items or other sensitive content unless it is necessary and you choose to do so.

Where applicable, you may lodge a complaint with the data-protection authority in the place where you live or work, or where you believe a violation occurred.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when Hive's features, service providers, business practices, or legal requirements change. The "Last updated" date identifies the current version. Material changes will be presented through an appropriate in-app or public notice when required by applicable law.

Include your anonymous diagnostic ID when your request concerns optional diagnostic telemetry. Do not include library items or other sensitive content unless it is necessary for your request and you choose to provide it.

11. Choices and Consent

Share Diagnostics requires your affirmative choice in Hive's Privacy settings. You may withdraw that choice at any time by turning Share Diagnostics off, which immediately stops future diagnostic collection.

Visual Search, imports, downloads, sharing, iCloud, purchases, and feedback are initiated by actions you choose to take. When you invoke one of these features, the information necessary to complete your request is processed as described in this Privacy Policy. You can stop using an optional feature or manage it through the controls provided by Hive, Apple, or the relevant service.
